Crimotaku here, known as the Otaku Trooper. Bringing to you not-exactly-no-longer LIVE .. Supanova Sydney 2010! Preview Night.

Thanks to connections of the local Sydney 501st Legion members, this otaku managed to get a special pass to allows me to “teleport” all over the event … pass the lines, making it possible for me to do this post! Giving people and inside view of one of Australia’s biggest conventions! Some say that Melbourne has bigger conventions compared to Sydney (Syd being 2nd) .. and i think i have to agree with that.

This preview night was set on the 18th June 2010.

Personal Blah-Blahs: Well thats the Otaku Trooper Report for Preview Night of Supanova Syd 2010! Two more days of report to type up! One thing i like about Australian conventions is there is a balance between western Sci Fic Fanboyism and eastern Otakuism.  But just by looking at the convention, Fanboyism and Otakuism is the same thing. There is no OR .. just AND! Fanboyism and Otakuism is the same thing, it just happens the Japanese term, Otaku, didnt pop up before Fanboyism. The Otaku Trooper is the middle link of both these cultures of the two worlds, loving them both equally. If i cover a convention, i try to capture the whole convention with all its content, but this is only possible if i have my brother (personal photographer) with me. >.< Why? He is my brother, he can sense all the kinds of mischief i can do, with just a word from me, and he’d click immediately ^^

For Supanova Sydney 2010, i was doing both Meito Anisawa cosplay from Lucky Star and a Stormtrooper. As i was the Stormtrooper i was reporting to 501st Legion duties (hard to take pics in armor and carry a DSLR), i like to pay off the favors and debts the moment i owe people something. Its not my way to take things for granted! =3 If you otakus out there ever do something awesome for me, i will make sure i return the awesomeness with some interest ^^ After double cosplaying, i pretty much understand why cosplayers dont bring their own cameras. However, thanks to DC Reader, Major Gravy, who saved the day, the Otaku Trooper was able to cause some mischief in the last two hours of Sunday 20th June! Whew! And i thought i would never get any pictures done!

But after this convention, i learnt something. I will only put full effort with a trustworthy and skilled photographer, that way i wont need hold back posing and doing all the talking, while my photographer take the pics. ^^  In short, i dont think i’d fly to a convention without a wingman … ever!

Ok,  for the past few days,  i have been in Mad Scientist mode killing my braincells preparing my armor and Dei’s Daft Punk cosplay. Before i blah blah a wall of text, its pretty simple! It pretty much goes like this ..

  • Armor Maintenance (Polishing and Readjusting and such). All posted in previous posts of UOW.
  • Dei’s Daft Punk – Getting raw materials to make it the closest way it should be. Learnt a lot from Vacuum Forming and unique heatgun bending.
  • Searching the corners of Hobart for parts and such to make Daft Punk fully make-able within Hobart.

Thats it, 3 simple points! All this done to prepare for the upcoming Supanova Sydney 2010 with Shazsteel and Major Gravy ^^ While being busy being busy walking all over the place, here are a few pics ^^

Your average fibreglass polish found at ur local K&D. Made my armor real shinny (not perfect) with this one ^^

This massive piece of lint came from ONE towel that i bought for Dei during his stay here in Hobart. Few more minutes in the drier and i swear it would come alive!

This is the first time, i actually saw a parent use the iPhone as a distraction/education for this little kid girl. While she was distracted watching Bananas in Pyjamas in MP4 format, mom was shopping for bags =3

Dei (Major Gravy) progress of his Daft Punk cosplay for Supanova Sydney and Perth 2010 ^^

This is the comparison between my convention bags. If i were to meet the 501st requirements, i would need to weld some of my parts. This is the size difference when packing T_T

Armor packed for Supanova Sydney 2010, before the great polish!!

Ok, i love captions, coz i just do. But in a couple of my older posts were modified (not by me) and captions were removed. Why i did it was simply explained as the MS Office 2003 to 2007 compatibility theory. 2003 can be read in 2007, 2007 cannot be read perfectly in 2003. 2003 is my blog, 2007 is this one. Someone removed my formatting that would make it possible for me to import my posts here (after exporting from UOW) to my old WordPress for archiving. I like archiving coz i like having backups. But seems like my plan is foiled and my 2 days of editing posts when i first started in UOW turned to waste.

The point about having partners is to assist each other WHILE NOTIFYING one another, i got no notification, and this awesome gift was bestowed upon me. I dont believe in Gods and their gifts because there is always a price. I did not ask for this gift, but i was stripped of my “vision” like Roy Mustang in FMA. Its .. just .. not fair ..

This is Crimotaku, blogging like always. But if my posts are modified, it means modifying my efforts, which doesnt make it 100% me. I like being original, but if ppl modify or censor my posts, I will make their lives a living hell. Bite their asses first then forgive them later! >.<

The blog is undergoing some restructuring by Shazsteel, so i did not post this here till he was done, but like always, i dont like delaying and forgetting so here it goes anyways! Presenting this Nendo/Figma Tale of DC Reader, Major Gravy’s Daft Punk build up for Supanova Sydney 2010.

Today, intended to go to Spotlight to buy the materials to finish up my TK vest MKII for the Heroes 4 Kids meeting i am attending this Saturday. Members were told to bring their costumes to show the new members what we are all about. Very similar to the 501st Legion, H4k (Heroes 4 Kids) is a non profit organization who does things for charity. This kind of organization makes it possible for cosplayers to appear in public without a convention. Being able to do what we love doing, being in character in costume! But before all that, i have to finish the alterations to my TK vest MKII in my previous post.

At around noon, i was scheduled to meet the Kamina cosplayer (Gurren Lagann), lets call him CH for now at the otaku shop called Niko Niko. By the time i arrived, he already bought a bathroom poster for his friend’s birthday present. Met up, had lunch, then comrade Wakaranai called and decided to meet up. Ended up going to my place (after Wakaranai aka Washi, decided to buy a poster from Niko Niko). Swapped anime, gave Washi his ordered Limited Edition Lucky Star Shrine Maiden loot from Irudono and etc. Had a couple of rounds of Super Street Fighter IV with CH.

Gathering at Otaku Trooper’s Hideout
Loot brought along by the fellow otakus
CH showing me his Limited Edition FSN Novel Game
LE FSN comes with a nice hardcover and a colored artbook
Lucky for me, my laptop has a decent amount of USB ports
When Black (PC) meets White (Mac). Both HDDs owned by CH. Used for anime swapping.
Not only did he bring HDDs but also some of his anime DVDs. Notice kyouka puchi being harassed in the back >.<
The figmas and nendos also wanted in on some camera whore action
There was a time when Saber was just a game character, but it has come a long way. From novel game to anime/manga to figma.
Shiro was also released as a figma, cannot wait for Rider to be released in June as well. June is FSN loot month for nendos and figmas!

Earlier this week, on a certain cloudy Monday, Hobart otaku comrade, Wakaranai SMSed me and asked me if i was free to do his photo-shooting of his Otacool3 Submission for Danny Choo‘s upcoming Otacool3 magazine. It features the colorful workspace of otakus all around the world. So far, to my knowledge, we would be the only two Tasmanian otakus in Australia that are planning to submit our application. Hopefully there would be more, but there are other Australian otakus that have already started submitting as well! The night before today (Saturday), i was talking with the Gurren Lagann’s Kamina cosplayer whom i met at AIcon 2010. We were planning to meet the moment we exchanged Facebook contacts .. and it random but it happened today as well!

The meeting of 3 Otakus. One missing behind the camera!
The Gurren Lagann’s Kamina cosplayer at AIcon 2010

United by our passion for animes and otaku culture, we both met in the city, met up with Wakaranai at the otaku shop, Niko Niko, then later had lunch at Sakura (sushi). “Russian sushi oishi yo~!” After lunch, we headed out to Wakaranai’s lair for the photoshoot. During the process of taking the shots of the room, we three also started exchanging comments, anime sharing and all that that is otaku-ism! Had a great fun time, with some Halo on the Xbox as well, i was the last on the frag board, but loved the game! First time playing it on the Xbox tho!

Anime swapping and such .. damn those Microsoft minutes!

During the meeting of these 3 otakus, we did everything otakus do, from anime referencing, comparing seiyuus, figures and such, anime swapping and recommendations, etc etc etc! Another day of a colorful otaku lifestyle for the otaku trooper. Marching daily with a mission to bring out the exciting best of the Japanese Otaku Subculture! It is a very demanding culture and requires constant updates with a passion!

Another day of fun from noon till dusk!

There is also a FigureFM version of the post. Slighty different but .. click here to read!

Attended the 2nd Heroes 4 Kids meeting this month, dated on the 10th April 2010. Ended up finding out we might be getting a Catwoman and Supergirl soon! I am eager to see these new members soon! Was also hoping to see fellow troopers from AICON/501st Legion in this meeting, but i was the only trooper that night >.< Had tons of fun, and this time, i did not feel like a rookie anymore, i actually made myself at home and explored the house looking for all kinds of goodies and treasures! The pics below kinda sums up what happened after the meeting =)

My props meets H4K props!
Finding some old school loot! Sailormoon in VHS!
.. and other old school treasures!
How can i resist posing with so many props around?!
Challenging the future Snake Eyes was a big mistake!
Huh!? What the?!
A simple yet futuristic and elegant gadget toy from a more civilized time! The 1980s!

Recently came back from AICON, but i already did some posts on Figure.fm. Why? Because its easier, and all the displayed pics are high res by default! Which is a thing of beauty when you want to share your ideas with fellow readers! But i will be doing a Burogu version of it soon enough with more details.

Sharing this Youtube vid and laughed real hard, because this is what i call a true MGS3 Snake cosplay. That Ocelot got pwnd so bad! But check out the FFX-2 Yuna cosplayer at the back. Her expression was priceless when she saw what just happened!
