When it comes to pop culture, may it be otakuism or fanboyism, i have always mentioned there were the same thing. The only difference, like technology regions, is the region. One came from the West and the other from the East. Made quite a couple of friends at Supanova Sydney 2010, exchanging cards and such. Ran out of cards at 1400hrs of Day02 Supanova. But never stopped me from introducing myself as the Otaku Trooper. I am a Network Engineer, its what i do, i build networks passively. So many ways, twitter/email/blog addresses you name it. I never ask for a phone number because that is like the direct connection to a person’s soul. You dont ask for it unless both are willing or u just happen to know the person really well!

This post was made using Windows Live Writer, recently updated @ 1700hrs, 04 June 2010. Made without using the downloaded template and i am eager to find out how it goes. Offline blog posting is way easier than relying on the internet all the time. I did this for my old blog, but that didnt go well due to compatibility issues (WordPress 1.9 to 2.0).

Today’s post is about a comrade, that does an awesome Darth Vader, member of the 501st Legion, that i met in Supanova. When it comes to costumers/cosplayers i like to learn about their background and know how they turned into fanboy/otakus. This Darth Vader happened to be Wolverine aka John Howlett of the X-Men (as seen in the comics and animated series, and movies). He did a wonderful Wolverine! I was pretty much asking him on Facebook if he could get me a pair of Wolvie claws and mail them to me. So it would go well with the 3 key items i want to have. The marks of the Avengers, a Shield (shield), Helmet (armor), and Claws (weapon).

Snikt! Snikt! Bring it on, mate! I mean “bub!”

Costume is based off the X-Men movies, takes an Aussie to pull of a Hugh Jackman!

I can SNIKT! too!

I so want a pair of these!

Hmmm .. this editor doesnt support CSS scripting which kind of rules out the Caption codes >.< This is the part where comrade Shazzsteel is gonna go “HOHO” and “HEHE” since i would  be using the same format as him now. Le sigh. But in future posts i will still put captions can it looks neater =)

This happens to be Wolvie’s/Vader’s Room before he boxed it up!

But according to him, now its a trillion times worse! LOL. So far after looking thru a room like that, i think this fanboy can rival any otaku room on this planet! (Ok, seriously, so CAPTIONS work on YOUTUBE vids?!) Hmmm, tried the code but it was using DIVs instead of CAPTION CSS style codes. Guess i would have to edit future posts with a CSS compatible editor! This post remains unedited, except for the Thumbnail pic i have to add in for the front page.

Marvel Comics’ has a universe that can rival any good novel or manga story writer. To make things clear, first there was Marvel Comics, known to many as the Marvel Universe, an alternate dimension where comic heroes from Marvel Comics exists with similar experiences with our current world we call life/reality. Sometime in the year 2000, Marvel decided to make an alternate version of this Marvel Universe called the Ultimate Universe. The storylines are based on our reality, like a black American president, the Samuel L Jackson lookalike Nick Fury, and etc etc. The Ultimate storyline is based off our darker reality where its not so jolly and full of moral values from the early 80s.

Most of the movies, recreated from the old school original Marvel Universe were blended with specific facts from the Ultimate Universe. Like Parker having Photoshop skills, when in the 1980s, there was no such thing as Photoshop, etc etc etc. In this Ultimate storyline, something happened to the Ultimate The Thing, and i think its some sort of evolution. In the Marvel Universe, The Thing stayed as he is since he was printed in black and white paper bag comics. But with modern creativity and sophisticated reality, science and imagination of the writers, our lovable blue eyed champion turned into something unexpected .. going to read more about it in the following issue!

P.S. If you wanna know where to ‘learn’ more about Marvel Comics or happen to wanna read the western side of otaku-ism, we call fanboyism. Just send me a twit/email/FB msg, and i will set you up with the right links. Be careful, the Marvel Universe is intense, and unlike manga .. it does not have an ending within <500 manga volumes or <300 anime episodes.

What has .. happened .. to the Thing?!
First he broke up in the middle of a massive fight ..
He was under F4 monitored intense medical treatment ..
.. and then .. presto change-o! Like magic! But what did he turn into?

The True Avengers .. finally! 'Nuff said!

After reading this issue, i am finally glad that it all came through. Marvel Comics has shown what it would be like if heroes of the old met the current 22nd century, which is dark and political all over. Who lead the political war against the Avengers? Norman Osborn (Green Goblin) would be responsible, the big honcho of HAMMER (replaced SHIELD). Nick Fury is back. Captain America is back. So is the blondie hammer wielding Asgardian goldilocks, Thor! I didnt realize that Sentry had something to do with the massive ‘shadow icon’ on top of the Avengers Tower, but during his death, it vanished! Leaving space for Thor to add an upgrade of his own, symbolizing the alliance between Midgard (Earth) and Asgard!

With this all out of the picture. Looking forward to Secret Avengers (not exactly Black Ops, but secret enough!) and the Ultimate’s storyline of the .. mm .. Ultimates! (known as the Avengers, but they are called the Ultimates). Also looking forward to Ultimate Nick Fury’s Black Ops Avengers! Why? Frank Castle (Punisher, yeah i know his movie blowed) .. but he was chosen to be the Black Op Captain America! Geeze! I wonder what other surprises would be there for a comic fanatic nut like me!

If there were going to make an Avenger movie, all i wanna ask is, do they have enough air time for the movie and the money to hire such a big cast? Hugh Jackman, Robert Downey Jr, and McGuire? Hmmm .. Well, thats something i would let my future self worry about. ‘Nuff said, True Believers!

.. and here we thought the Extremis Iron-Man suit was gone ..

Iron-Man, Tony Stark, Marvel’s Iron Knight .. friend to Jim Rhodes aka War Machine, Thor aka Donald Blakes, Steve Rogers aka Captain America .. former boss of Peter Parker aka Spiderman (while Parker was in employment, he had an Iron-Tech Spidey Suit) .. so many friends .. so many connections .. Tony Stark nearly got everyone he trusted and befriends behind bars in a certain Marvel Civil War. Forcing the good guys to choose sides, Iron-Man’s or Captain America’s. With Nick Fury missing and all .. the Civil War went to hell on Earth leaving Earth’s Mightiest Heroes at the mercy of the Skrull Invasion. The invasion that warped whatever we know into a total mental mess. Skrulls are aliens who can completely impersonate anyone on a biological, molecular, magical level, which made it near to impossible to detect them.

Norman Osborn stepped in, saved the day, and was appointed as Director of H.A.M.M.E.R, became a political hero and icon to everyone in the world. Thanks to politics and the media. This lead to the SIEGE which brought the fall of Asgard (now a floating island in the US). Thor’s home was turned to mush thanks to Osborn’s Dark Avengers member, the Sentry. There were deaths on both sides, both heroes and villians. But the SIEGE is nearly over, and Tony Stark back from being brain dead (deleted his brain because it contained too much information that could compromise anyone and anything he knows .. “Knowledge is Power”) …

Stark is back with a previous backup of himself, discovering that .. in his current state, not only does the Extremis makes him the ultimate Iron-Man .. without it makes him obsolete .. he found out that he could re-use the idea of how the concept of Extremis, reverse engineer it with a few tweaks and make it work for him .. again. How this works? Well guess i have to read more about Tony in the upcoming issues of Iron-Man! Like always .. comic designs are always far superior compared with the Iron-Man movies. But CGI is not that far behind ..

.. but its back with a new re-formatted Tony Stark! Yes, i mean it .. reformatted! Read the comics!

What is the Extremis? The Extremis was modified by Tony and used it to modify himself on a biological level. Making him Man & Machine in perfect unity. A walking, breathing, biological computer.

Mostly known as Stan “The Man” Lee (Wiki details here). Pretty much known as the man living the dream, closest godlike being into creating his own world, The Marvel Universe. What is the Marvel Universe? Well, you see, when authors write things like Harry Potter or Twilight, its no different from making a very big island full of characters. But happens if you push that a bit further, like making not just one .. but multiple worlds of characters, different time lines, alternate realities and all that? What if you made an entire universe of all original characters living in a comic reality that can somehow relate to our very own reality? That is what the Marvel Universe is. Similar to Star Wars and Star Trek, fictional characters that we grew up reading and the characters have been “living” with us for many many years.

Stan “The Man” Lee, Creator of all that is Marvel Comics.

Sure, there are people going, “Oh Iron-Man/Spider-Man/Fantastic Four/Hulk/etc is bad ass! They are all NEW MOVIES!” .. but these guys are as old as its creator, Stan Lee. I always get amazed to see new viewers first experiences when watching these “new movies”. But currently in our world, the movie industry is running out of new ideas, so what do they do? They dig up old ones! Why? Because its either we forgot them (except me, i love reading about them) or the people are just too young to realized they already existed.  So people would ask “What is Marvel Comics? Is it new?” which usually let me end up saying “Boy .. Marvel Comics was around before you even existed in the world or maybe diapers!”

Enough of the old stuff chat and in with the new .. Stan Lee extended his reach to the Japanese anime industry, where instead of being immortalized in his comics, series or movies .. he is now immortalized in an anime called Heroman! (Wiki details here)

Heroman, picture taken from CurrentAnime

Personal Summary: Boy finds broken electronic remote control toy abandoned by rich kids that do not appreciate anything. Takes it home, fixes it, somehow gets zapped by an alien ray that caused a weird lightning storm to pop up, zaps toy and poof. Its alive! Heroman! Heroman in its full form has the colors of Captain America (Red, White, Blue .. duuuuhhh). The anime is set in an american typical teenager comic theme: Teenagers, high school, jock bullies, cheerleaders .. sound familiar? Like the typical American comic. The art is done by Bones, whom are responsible for awesome animes like Eureka Seven, Sword of the Stranger and the current (and previous) Fullmetal Alchemist!

Heroman = Ben 10 (Has a watch), Captain America (The colors), Iron-Man (The tech), Back to the Future (“Nearly Mad” Scientist friend), Alien Invasions, .. and the final touch .. tossing in some Transformer fonts!

When i first saw episode 01, i was amazed .. and guess who made a cameo appearance? “The Man” himself!

Same hairstyle and shades .. the never changing .. was it a coincidence?

The moment he turned, it was bloody obvious!

I went all Fanboy/Otaku mode the moment i saw this. Looking forward to more of the series! Who is Stan Lee? Why is he important? Summary? The God of all that is Superhero Fiction! What was he involved in? Plenty!

The list of what he got involved in:

  • Wolverine
  • Fantastic Four
  • Spider-Man
  • X-Men
  • Heroes
  • G.I.Joe
  • Transformers
  • Blade
  • Daredevil
  • Elektra
  • Hulk
  • Captain America (movie coming soon)
  • Thor (movie coming soon)
  • Avengers (movie coming soon)
  • .. and the list goes on starting from the 1940s to 2010!

George Lucas has retired and Steven Spielberg is close to retiring as well .. with these two movie/fiction gods gone, that would make Stan Lee the last fiction god from the old ages that lived thru black and white television and lived long enough to see the age of Bluray and mp3s!
